Truck driver Scott Lewis is one of 18 professional drivers from across Europe competing at the international final of the DAF Driver Challenge in Luxembourg this weekend.
The drivers will go head-to-head for the coveted title of Truck Driver of the Year after winning through their respective national DAF Driver Challenge finals earlier this year – itself following a tough preliminary round.
An outstanding truck driver is able to extract maximum productivity from their vehicle, while at the same time displaying a keen awareness of other road users. The DAF Driver Challenge will determine which truck driver is the ultimate professional. Unique in its quest, the DAF Driver Challenge is open to anybody with a truck driving licence, regardless of the marque he or she normally drivers.
Distinguishing factor
The road to the final of the DAF Driver Challenge began earlier this year with a subscription in which drivers had to convince a jury of the craftsmanship, dedication, skills and passion. Only the best of the best were then invited to compete in national competitions all over Europe and beyond. The results of all 30 national tests were aggregated to determine 18 finalists who had achieved excellence and had won through to the final. That final will take place this weekend – September 28th and 29th – at the impressive Goodyear proving ground in Luxembourg, under the supervision of Europe’s largest vehicle inspection company, DEKRA.
‘Great drivers that make great trucks’
Richard Zink, Director Marketing & Sales, and Member of the Board of Management at DAF Trucks, said, “Already for decades, we have built trucks that offer market leading driver comfort, featuring a wide range of driving technologies designed to support drivers every day. However, it’s the driver that unlocks a vehicle’s true potential. So, we challenge all drivers to demonstrate their outstanding driving skills behind the wheel of our excellent vehicles.”
